Telecom Fiji has today launched with Government the E-ticketing bus fare solution for students to be implemented from the first term of school next year.
TFL CEO Rohan Mail said he is particularly happy that this project was in support of Government's initiative to improve access to Education for the children, which is part of the Millennium Development Goals.
Fiji Bus Association Secretary, Rohit Latchan added that this will make work a lot easier for the teachers, there will be no more counting of the vouchers, no more chasing for payment and teachers can now concentrate on teaching and not worry about the giving out of vouchers.
Latchan added that the E-ticketing machine will be installed in all the buses.
Each child under the Bus Assistance Programme will be given a TFL Yehdo Bus Pass Card which is personalized to them.
The card contains the child's name, school and address.
When boarding the bus the child "taps" their card onto a bus console to pay for their fare.
The bus console is linked to the electronic Yehdo payment gateway via TFL's Telecommunications networks, where payments to the bus companies are made.
