Duo Refused Bail
Noa Maya and Moape Katonivere also known as Harry Anderson appeared before Magistrate Amaniasi Katonivualiku this morning, while the third accused Felix Vusonitokalau did not appear in court as he is currently serving a four year sentence.
Katonivere made a lenghty bail application submission in court saying that his wife is pregnant and she needs him to take care of her. He also told the court that his church pastor will give assurity as the court was determined to place him on strict bail conditions and place a curfew on him from 6pm to 6am, seven days a week.
However, the pastor told the court that he would not be able to control him.
The court noted that the two accused had seven and fifteen previous convictions and Magistrate Katonivualiku said that the court has learned its lesson from past experiences, where accused persons made similar applications with assurity and majority of them failed to honor their bail conditions.
It is alleged that the two got away in a vehicle on 17th June, robbed a cashier at the Marina Service Station of $293 dollars, cigarettes and assorted items and later robbed the Raiwaqa Bakery and stole more than $3000. They have been remanded in custody to appear in court on 14th August.
