Drying Streams Result In Water Rationing
The streams which on a normal day supplies over 68 million litres of water, is now supplying only 58 million litres.
Speaking to Fijivillage, Water Supply Department's Public Relations Officer Maika Nagalu said that the streams supply water to their main treatment system, Headworks 3, however because it caters to a lot of areas, rationing was the only option they had.
However, Nagalu said they are currently monitoring the dry weather spell and are liaising with the National Forecasting Centre before any other action can be taken and added at the moment, they are keeping their fingers crossed that a drought does not occur.
High areas in Lami, Namadi Heights, Tamavua, Delainavesi and Rewa Street and parts of Suva city and areas supplied by the Tamavua water system have been experiencing water rationing between 9pm and 4am.
The Water Supply department had earlier revealed that a total of 150 million litres of water is used daily by Suva residents.
