The Nadi Weather Office will soon start monitoring the dry season in the country.

Director Rajendra Prasad said the drought may not be as bad as 1997 and 1998 where the dry season lasted for over an year and the wet season was very dry.

They expect the dry season to be weak to moderate.

According to Prasad, the effect maybe on water supply, stress on agriculture crops and the Monasavu Dam.

He has called on people to start saving on the usage of water.

Prasad said the effect of the dry season has started as there will be below average rainfall around the country from early next month.
