National athletics rep and Adi Cakobau School's Akesa Drotini will not be defending the Open Girls 1500 metres title at the Coca Cola Games next month.

Drotini who won the Gold last year did not take part in today's 1500 metres final at the Triple N Zone.

The 1500 metres is not her favorite event but she will be running tomorrow in the 3,000 metres final and will also try a new event, the 400 metres this year.

With Drotini out, Suva Grammar School's Nohela Taqai will be favourite to win the Open Girls 1500 metres final at the Coca Cola Games next month.

Meanwhile Bhawani Dayal High School's Krishan Mudliar won the first gold medal in the Senior Boys 1500 metres final in the Triple N Zone at the TFL National Stadium. Sila Central took out silver and Lelean settled for the bronze.

In the Open Girls 1500 metres final Adi Cakobau School's Anaesi Sumo won the Gold medal and will carry the schools hope to the Coke Games.

The silver medal in this event went to Shreedhar Maharaj College from Nausori and Lelean won the bronze.
