It was Fiji's gold medalist and Adi Cakobau School student, Akesa Drotini's day as she took out the first gold medal of the Coca Cola Light Games this morning.
Drotini took gold in the 1500m Open Girls event, beating her main rival from Wainimala Secondary, Nohela Taqai, who had a better time in the zone competition earlier this month.
Drotini told FijiVillage that she had focused on beating Taqai and winning the 1500m gold, although it is not her favourite event.
She is also confident to bring in another gold medal for ACS in the 3000m final tomorrow morning.

According to the FijiVillage medal tally, ACS leads with 1 gold. Wainimala Secondary is in second place with 1 silver and Nadogo Secondary is third with 1 bronze.
In the boys division, Nadroga Arya is leading with 1 gold and 1 silver, Nadarivatu Secondary and DAV College of Ba are tied at second place with 1 gold each.

“As expected, the first Gold of the 2008 Coca Cola Light Games went to Adi Cakobau Schools’ Akesa Drotini, who went to the 1500m Open Girls’ event. There was strong challenge put up in that race against Drotini by Nohela Taqai from Wainimala Secondary School, who bagged the silver medal. Akesa finished the race in 5m 7s, which is well outside her best personal time. Looking at the 1500m Junior Boys’ Event. – the first and gold went to Nadarivatu Secondary School Peni Ketewai taking gold for Nadarivatu Secondary School in the 1500m event. The silver and second place to Ajeshwar Singh of Cuvu College, while Waisea Lovolovo of Nasikawa Vision from Nadrogo took out the third and bronze medal in the 1500m Junior Boys’ event. In the Inter Boys’ 1500m event – the gold medal went to Koto Taivei of Nadroga Arya College, the second and silver went to Manueli Koroi Holy Cross College. And the bronze medal went to Sireli Sama of Gau Secondary School. While in the 1500 Senior Boys’ Event, which has just ended, the gold medal went to Jale Vota of DAV College in Ba, and second place and silver to Shamal Chand of Nadroga Arya College and third and bronze medal to Mario Senimoli of Namosi Secondary School.”
