Drivers please be warned that you will be booked on the spot if children under the age of eight are found still riding in the front seat.

This is the warning from LTA's Media Liaison Officer Ratu Eroni Volavola as they continue to on their month long campaign to ensure children are properly secured while travelling in vehicles.

Volavola said those found breaching the law will face a spot fine of $40, and failure to pay will result in court action.

Volavola had earlier said that LTA laws clearly state that children under eight cannot sit in the front seat and must be secured in an authorized standard child safety seat.

However, Volavola added they cannot force every parent to purchase these safety seats as they are expensive.

He has advised parents to make sure their children are securely seated at the back behind the driver or the passenger seat and to make sure another adult is also seated with the child.

The campaign which started on Monday will end on the 16th of May.
