Many taxi drivers are currently trying to get their taxi meters calibrated as taxi fares increase from today.
Acting general secretary Shammi Kapoor said that the Land Transport Authority has recognized two electronic companies, Kenston in Nadera and K.K Electronics, which are calibrating the meters.
Kapoor said that LTA has made it clear that any driver who will get the taxi meter calibrated from elsewhere will not be able to get it certified by the LTA officers.
He is calling on all the taxi drivers to take time out today to get their meters calibrated.
The flag fall rate of taxis increases from $1.00 to $1.50 in the day while the flag fall rate or the starting rate will be $2.00 from 10pm to 6am.
Waiting charges for taxis will also increase from the current 10cents for every 2 minutes to 10cents per minute from today.
