Sevens Wizard Waisale Serevi last night failed to guide his South Sea Drifters club to defend the Darwin 7s after they lost 17-15 to Digicel Samoa Barbarians.

Both sides featured players who are earmarked to represent their country in the next leg of the IRB 7s series.

The Samoa Barbarians not only won the final defeating the Drifters but they also walked away with $60,000 prize money.

The Drifters were leading 15-10 with only a minute left but poor defence let the side down as the Samoa Barbarians scored the winning try breaking away from their own try line and running around Serevi who was the last line of defence.

Three sides from Fiji made it through to the quarterfinals with Drifters beating Red Rock 21-10, Davetalevu from Nadroga lost to Aussie Spirit 15-7.
