Police have arrested a 65-year-old man from Navosa for allegedly being in possession of dried leaves believed to be marijuana and also bribing a police officer.

Police spokesperson Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed the man was arrested yesterday morning when police searched his vehicle at a checkpoint in Navosa and confiscated a lot of plastic bags full of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

The man was taken to Sigatoka Police Station and during the questioning process, the man allegedly tried to bribe an officer with a $50 note.

He is still in custody and expected to be charged soon.

Meanwhile, they have interviewed and released the truck owner and driver who was allegedly found transporting more than $100,000 worth of marijuana in a 10 wheeler truck in Seaqaqa.

Police said the two are expected to be charged on Tuesday next week after an analysis report is received from the Koronivia Research Station.

Police confirmed the truck owner has revealed that he has been involved in this business for the last thirteen years and was buying marijuana from Sigatoka. Police are now expected to head their investigations towards reaching the source of the marijuana.

Police are also still waiting for the analysis report from the Koronivia Research Station after which the Asian national from Natovi, Tailevu, is expected to be charged for allegedly supplying marijuana to secondary school students, people in Ovalau, Suva and even to Vanua Levu.

The 45-year-old man is believed to have been the main drug peddler in Natovi. He was under police surveillance for some time.
