The dredging works in the Nadi River aimed to reduce the impacts of flooding has helped create employment for villagers residing along the river banks.
Director Lands, Water and Resource Management Lakshman Mudaliar said they are grateful for the assistance in carrying out this important work.
Mudaliar said the first two phases of the dredging work is progressing according to plan with plans in place to reduce activities along the river banks to reduce impacts of sedimentation.
The dredging works was undertaken after the Nadi River burst its banks on three occasions during the floods in January and caused wide spread damages.
