The Northern and Western schools are already on the Legend FM medal tally for the 2013 Coca-Cola Games and it is a dream start for two athletes from the Northern division as they have also won gold and smashed records.

Petero Werekoro of Solevu Junior Secondary won gold in the Junior Boys 1,500 metres event and also set a new record.

He ran in a time of 4 minutes 26 seconds.

The old record was 4 minutes 27 seconds set by Apisai Tuidia of Bucalevu Secondary in 2002.

A major upset in the Senior Boys 1,500 metres event.

It has already started to happen as we predicted that the athletes from outside Suva will clinch the medals from the top schools.

Inia Sili of Shree Gurunanak Khalsa Secondary of Macuata took gold in the Senior Boys 1,500 metres.

Paula Buke of Xavier College from Ba took silver while Epeli Batisila of Natabua High took bronze.

Sili broke the record with a time of 4 minutes 07 seconds.

Sili said that everyone wants to win gold this year at the newly renovated ANZ Stadium and this gold and record is for the people of Savusavu.

The 18 year old from Naiqali village, Wailevu, Savusavu said he trained hard everyday even when it rained in Savusavu.

In the Intermediate Boys 1,500 metres event, gold went to Iliesa Ratete of Koro High, Farisiko Mulavu of Suva Grammar School had to settle for silver while Vinish Pillay of Ba Sanatan College took bronze.
 
Ratete said he worked hard to win the race and dedicates his win to all the students of Koro High, his parents and the coaching staff.

He said his mum and dad wanted to come and watch him at the ANZ Stadium however they did not have enough funds.

He hopes this will make them happy.
