Draunidalo questions Pryde’s right
Representing Draunidalo in a civil case this morning, Suva Lawyer Richard Naidu highlighted to Justice Roger Coventry that according to an order, Pryde is only permitted to appear in a case brought against the Interim AG and not one brought by him. He said Pryde claimed that his appearance would be legal, however upon request by his client he investigated the matter. He asked the court to make orders in this regard.
Pryde in response agreed that he was under the impression that he can appear and informed the court that he is seeking a full admission to the bar in Fiji and objected to the request for the court to make a ruling on his appearance.
Justice Coventry then stressed that they must abide by the words of the order if Pryde is to continue as lead counsel.
The matter was adjourned for one hour. Pryde then returned and informed the court that the necessary amendments have been made to the order by the Acting Chief Justice Anthony Gates allowing him to appear on behalf of the Interim AG in any legal proceeding.
Outside court, when questioned on the matter, Naidu replied that the people of Fiji would be glad to know that Justice is swift in Fiji.
