The SDL has expressed shock and is saddened at the untimely passing of former Lieutenant Colonel and ousted minister in the SDL government, Savenaca Draunidalo in a boating accident yesterday afternoon in Naroi Waters in Moala, Lau.
National Director, Peceli Kinivuwai said Draunidalo was a vital member and key component of the SDL even though he had entered the political arena on an independent ticket.
Ousted Labour Minister in the SDL Multi Party Government, Krishna Datt said Draunidalo was one of the hardworking ministers and his passing away is a huge loss to Fiji.
Draunidalo went fishing with two other relatives when their open fibre boat capsized and hit him due to strong winds.
A post mortem has been arranged to determine the cause of death. Police investigations are continuing.
Draunidalo was 58 years of age and is survived by his wife and three children.
Police would also like to remind members of the public, mariners and especially those in the islands and those living in coastal areas to be careful when going out to sea.
Police are urging you not to take the risk of going against the adverse weather situation we are encountering especially strong winds and to listen to and take heed of advice from the weather office and to equip yourself with all water safety gear when going out to sea.
