The Navua soccer team will be having double celebrations, as they look forward to Diwali this weekend which has been made sweeter with the side winning the Courts Homecentres IDC with a 2-nil win against Lautoka last night.
After ending their 71 year long drought in the Courts Homecentres IDC, the Navua soccer team will share $50,000 cash.
President Anil Sharma will give $35,000 from his own pocket for the team while $15,000 is the prize money for the IDC win.
Sharma, who will step down from his post after being elected to the Fiji FA vice-presidency, said the players deserve to be congratulated for their performance.
For coach Gurjeet Singh, the win has silenced those who criticized the team for match fixing after they made it to the semifinal.
Captain Pene Erenio was lost for words after the final as it was his first IDC win as well.
Navua beat Lautoka 2-nil yesterday to be crowned the 2009 IDC champions.
