With a week remaining for schools to open, the Fiji Teacher's Union has urged parents to ensure that their children are all set to go to school.
General Secretary, Agni Deo Singh said parents have already started school shopping and has asked parents to shop around and buy cheaper books adding that they understand that prices of some books have increased and are expensive.
Singh said they also welcome the assistance provided by the Government who are providing free text books to schools.
Meanwhile. with only 11 days to the start of the New School Year, alot of students and teachers are still wrapping up celebrations for the New Year in their villagers.
Most students and teachers to Suva and the outer islands are leaving it to next week to travel back and Chairman of the Fiji Shipping Co-operation, Captain Victor Fatiaki has advised students and teachers to check on shipping schedules to avoid delays and overcrowding.
Fatiaki adds that delays in travel has led to overcrowding in some ships and it is the duty of the officers on board to ensure that they adhere to the number of passengers and cargo that they have to carry.
The New School Year for 2010 begins on Tuesday, January 26th.
