As the country awaits the announcement of the 2012 National Budget, people living in poverty have been called to stand up and take some responsibility in trying to make their lives better.
The Chief Executive Officer of Save the Children Fiji, Chandra Shekhar said in their survey they have identified a number of factors affecting children who come from poor background.
He said it is high time most of the recipients stand on their own two feet instead of just relying on handouts.
He said getting funding and getting the work done is very challenging.
The poverty rate stands at 31% of the country’s population.
The announcement of the 2012 National Budget will be held this Friday.
