The Ousted Prime Minister stresses that the interim government should not go ahead with the granting of Permanent Residence status to former Fiji citizens as it is not democratically elected.
Laisenia Qarase said although the policy should be explored, the interim administration does not have the right to make these types of decisions.
Qarase also questions what impact the new policy will have on the people of Fiji if former Fiji citizens are allowed to come and work in the country.
Interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama confirmed earlier to Village News that the decision has been made by the interim cabinet and those former Fiji citizens who wish to come back and invest in Fiji or work here will be given PR status from 2008.
Bainimarama is now awaiting word from the Immigration Director, Viliame Naupoto to ensure that measures are implemented before the process begins from next year.
