The Interim Attorney General has again called on people not to distort certain information that would threaten the independence of the judiciary.
Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said High Court Judge Justice Jocyln Scutt has been criticized at the recent Transparency International Lecture and believes that the reaction to her comments is based on a misunderstanding and deliberate exaggeration and distortion.
However Sayed-Khaiyum maintains that all Judges should stay out of the political arena. He said they should avoid making public statements particularly in those areas which may be the subject to litigation. He said that Justice Scutt did not appear to have crossed that line.
He also raised concerns that some Judges have in the past crossed the line however no one raised concerns about their outbursts.
The Interim AG added that Fiji Law Society President Isireli Fa has changed his position on a number of matters which is now the source of constant confusion to a number of his own members.
Sayed-Khaiyum went on to say that people are questioning the appointment of Judges now but no questions were raised when appointments were made in 2000.
