The Interim Minister of Provincial Development, Department of Indigenous Affairs and Multi Ethnic Affairs has called on those people who are criticizing the move by the interim government for the Ministry of Fijian Affairs to be turned into the Department of Indigenous Affairs to try and understand what is in store for the Fijian people in the 2008 budget.
Ratu Epeli Ganilau said that the likes of the ousted Prime Minister and terminated Great Council of Chiefs Chairman are just misleading the indigenous Fijians.
Ratu Epeli said the allocation to assist the indigenous Fijians has increased for 2008.
Terminated Great Council of Chiefs Chairman Ratu Ovini Bokini has raised concern on why the Ministry of Fijian Affairs has been turned into the Department of Indigenous Affairs.
The Tui Tavua believes that there should have been wide consultations amongst the Fijians from the villages, districts and provinces before the change was made.
He has called on the current Interim Minister responsible to explain why they have made the change as many Fijians will look at it as downgrading the Ministry of Fijian Affairs to becoming a Department of indigenous affairs.
