Ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase said Commodore Frank Bainimarama should not blame him for not handing back power to Mahendra Chaudhry when he was ousted in the May 2000 coup.
Qarase said both Bainimarama and Citizens Constitutional Forum Executive Director Reverend Akuila Yabaki knew very well that Mahendra Chaudhry handed in his resignation to the president and asked to dissolve parliament in 2001.
Qarase said that Bainimarama did not want Mahendra Chaudhry to return to power in 2001 and he was concerned that this time around, Bainimarama would put the blame on him.
Bainimarama said Qarase should have thought of this same idea when he was supposed to hand back power to Mahendra Chaudhry when he was ousted in the May 2000 coup.
