Considering that there is still some confusion on whether Samoan sprinter Jeremy Dodson would take part in the Pacific Games, Athletics Fiji Section Manager, Joe Rodan Junior has confirmed that he is not eligible to take part.
Jeremy Dodson of Samoa had beaten Pacific Sprint King Banuve Tabakaucoro in the mens 200m final of the Oceania Athletics Championships in Australia.
Dodson had finished in first place with a time of 20.57secs while Tabakaucoro ran a time of 20.68secs.
Eligibility laws confirm that Dodson has to be born and have lived in Samoa for at least five years.
The Samoan sprinter does not meet this criteria therefore he will not be taking part in the Pacific Games.
Dodson was the favourite for the men’s 200 metres event.
Some other athletes representing Fiji are Aaron Powell, Albert Miller Junior, Vilisoni Rarasea, Younise Bese, Waisale Dausoko, Shawntell Lockington, Milika Tuivanuavou, Eugene Vollmer, Batinisavu Uluiyata, Mustafa Fall, Heleina Young and Kelera Sing.
352 athletes will represent Fiji in 26 sports in the Pacific Games which will be held from the 4th to the 18th of July in Papua New Guinea.
