Doctors Release Wrong Body For Burial
Navua Police has confirmed that a report has been lodged with them by a family in Namosi that the body was their 75 year old relative and was discharged for burial to a Beqa family by the nurses.
According to police the Beqa family whose 66 year old relative passed away came to take his body when they were given the body of 75 year old Namosi man.
The Beqa family took the body from Navua hospital and traditionally buried him not knowing that it is not their relative.
When the Namosi family came to take the body for burial the same evening, they were shocked to find out that the body of their 75 year old relative is missing.
Upon investigation it was then established that the wrong body was released for burial. A team of doctors and nurses then went to Beqa and presented their sevusevu to the family to dig the body out.
The body was then dug out and was then released to the Namosi family. Police have confirmed that they are awaiting a report from the SDMO Navua who is conducting an internal investigation.
