It’s all wide open and the Digicel Matai team which features Waisale Serevi as coach/player and NZ 7s coach, Gordon Tietjens as technical adviser, has to beat the NZ Maori in its final pool match this afternoon to qualify for the Cup quarter finals of the Uprising Fiji International 7s.
The Matai team lost to Uprising 12-7 in its first match but came back in the second half through Serevi's efforts to secure a 12-all draw against Samurai.
Tietjens who arrived last night said the main difficulty is the imbalance of fitness levels and the team has just been put together.
Tietjens also said the local teams are really doing well in the tournament and it is evident from some games where the Fiji Barbarians lost to Wardens 21-14.
He said the main issue Fiji rugby should concentrate on in the IRB series is picking a balanced team and sticking to that team through the series.
The NZ coach revealed that he is closely watching Ponsonby's Solomon King who is in the NZ 7s squad but needs game time.
Samoa, Red Rock and the Joe Savou coached Wardens side are the first three teams who have confirmed their spots for the Cup quarter finals.
Samoa have already won two of their pool games beating Nadroga by 22-12 and US Grizzlies by 40-5 and will meet Red Rock in their last pool game later this afternoon.
The Wardens side created one of the major upsets at the tournament after they beat the Fiji Barbarians by 21-14.
Looking at some of the results from the games that has been completed Nadroga beat US Grizzlies 19-14, Samuari beat Uprising 10-5 and Navy edged Army 15-14.
The next commentary that is currently underway between Samoa and Red Rock, Samoa is leading Red Rock 12 - 7 and it can be heard on our sister station VitiFM, NZ Maori meet Digicel Matai at 14 minutes past 5 and the last game at 5:58pm between Fiji and Police.
