Residents in Namadi Heights and surrounding areas woke up this morning to no water in their taps.

Water Supply Department Spokesperson, Maika Nagalu said that the Savura pumping station developed mechanical problems and as a result water levels at the Tamavua Reservoir this morning was very low resulting in the water cut.

However, Nagalu said that their men have managed to fix the problem and the water level is slowly normalising adding water should be back in their pipes soon.

At the moment, 150 families in Ba who rely on the Varavu and Navoli boreholes are still without water.

Nagalu said that they cannot do much at the moment until power is restored to these areas however they have sent out only one water truck to cart water to the 150 families.

Meanwhile, New Years tradition in Fiji is to wet someone with water however this year, we cannot afford for this to happen.

This is the advice from Water Department Spokesperson Maika Nagalu who said this is a dry period for Fiji and thus we must save water at all costs and not use it unwisely.

Nagalu adds parents must advise their children about not wasting water as many areas are still without water adding people should not at this time tamper with water valves and hydrants.
