The administrator for Suva has called on businesses not to breach the trading hours to take advantage of the events in Suva during the long weekend.
Vijendra Prakash said for the last four weeks, all the traders have followed closing hours and police will be assisting them in enforcing the law upon traders.
The Suva City Council is collecting a $20 levy on permit fees charged to shop owners who applied for an extension to their opening hours to 9pm.
This money collected from permits will be used for administrative costs.
200 out of the 6000 shops that fall within the Suva City boundary have been given permits to open beyond 6pm, and these business operators can chose to continue to open till 9pm during a week or not.
