Diwali 2013 is here with people of all ages and races across the country anticipating the celebration.

The religious festival began on Friday and will culminate this evening with a spectacular display of lights, fireworks and the enjoying of sweets.

Fijivillage spoke to some members of the community on what Diwali means to them.

While people are urged to celebrate the spirit of Diwali the National Fire Authority is also reminding members of the public to always take pre-caution given the large amount of cooking, candles, diyas and fireworks used today.

The police are also urging those going around collecting sweets from people’s homes to refrain from harassing them.

The time given by the Mineral Resources Department for the use of firecrackers today is from 5pm till midnight.
