The Bose Vanua of the province of Macuata has already held discussions with officials from the Ministry of Fisheries this week regarding investigations into the allegations that a large number of turtles were killed during the Methodist Church Conference last month.

When contacted by Village, Tui Macuata Ratu Aisea Katonivere said he will not comment on the matter since delegates of the tikina councils gave their report to the Bose Vanua headed by assistant Roko Tui Macuata Mosese Nakoroi who is liaising with officials from the Fisheries ministry.

Nakoroi could not be contacted for a comment.

It has been confirmed that only four turtles were approved to be killed for traditional purposes however total of eighty four turtles were allegedly killed.

Senior Officials from the ministry say under the Endangered Species Act one found guilty of this offence can be fined over $20,000 or five years imprisonment.
