The General Secretary for the Fijian Teachers Association said he has not seen the final promulgation of the Fiji Teachers Registration Board and cannot say yet whether they will accept it.
Maika Namudu said the teachers union need to discuss the promulgation first and he does not think that it should be implemented immediately as it will affect a lot of teachers.
Namudu's comment comes after the interim cabinet approved the promulgation of the Fiji Teachers Registration Board yesterday.
Interim Minister for Education Filipe Bole said once the legislation comes into effect, all existing teachers as well as new teachers will be required to register with the Fiji Teacher Registration Board over a period of three months for provisional registration.
He said a person not fully complying may be given a provisional registration for certain period subject to conditions and the board reserves the right to cancel the registration of any teacher for any good reason the board determines.
The requirements for registration include proper qualifications, experience and good character.
