Members of the diplomatic corp in Fiji are concerned with the impact on the operations of their missions in the country with the expected expulsion of the Acting New Zealand High Commissioner to Fiji Caroline McDonald.
Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Ratu Isoa Gavidi told Fijivillage that he had met with representatives from some other overseas missions where these views were expressed.
Ratu Isoa also confirmed that the decision by the interim government not to issue diplomatic visas to replace the NZ defence attache and the NZ police attache is based on the fact that Fiji currently does not have any defence links with the NZ government.
Meanwhile, the Australian High Commissioner is mum on the current impasse between the Fiji and New Zealand government regarding the reported expulsion of Acting High Commissioner Caroline McDonald.
James Batley said at the moment there has been no official decision made on the matter and its best to wait for the outcome.
However, a Senior Government Official has confirmed to Fijivillage that the Acting New Zealand High Commissioner, Caroline McDonald will be expelled from Fiji with an announcement expected later today.
