Digicel Fiji which matched the Fiji rugby sponsorship offer from a competitor states that the Fiji Rugby Union had stated last month that Digicel would get the sponsorship if it matches any offer put forward by the FRU.
Digicel Fiji CEO, Maurice McCarthy confirmed this to Fijivillage last night.
Fijivillage has received confirmation through reliable sources that Digicel also offered $250,000 as a cash advance to the FRU.
In a letter to the FRU, Digicel Fiji said that it understands that the Fiji 7s team is suffering due to lack of sponsorship funds.
Digicel has offered $250,000 on the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement before the sponsorship agreement is signed.
This is based on the current financial situation of the FRU.
Digicel has requested for the Memorandum of Agreement to be signed by this afternoon.
McCarthy is yet to comment on the contents of the letter however he confirmed that the FRU Chairman had confirmed that Digicel Fiji would get the rugby sponsorship if it matches any other offer put forward.
When Fijivillage contacted FRU director responsible for sponsorships, Baljeet Singh, he only said that they are still vetting the offers.
