One of the country's two mobile companies Digicel will begin registration of their customers once they get confirmation on the date of commencement of the Compulsory Telephone Decree 2010.

Digicel Fiji Chief Executice, Matt Davey had earlier revealed to Fijivillage that they are currently in talks with the Office of the Attorney General and the Ministry of National Security to determine the commencement date of the Decree.

In a statement, Digicel acknowledges that the Decree has been gazetted and is now waiting for the commencement date of compulsory registration.

The statement goes on to state that once the date is confirmed they will begin registration by prior notice and start registration at their main customer stores, taking into account that one month's time has been given for registration.

As part of the conditions set out in the Decree, all telephone users will have to provide identification as well as Photo identification.

The Telephone Services Decree has already been gazetted by the President.

However the Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum will determine the date when the decree comes into effect.

Once that is determined, all telephone and mobile phone users will have 30 days to register with their service providers.
