Pacific sprint king, Banuve Tabakaucoro's preparation for the Commonwealth Games has been boosted after Digicel signed a three year sponsorship with him which is close to $70,000.

Tabakaucoro said he is happy with this sponsorship which will help in his training and improving his time to be able to qualify for the Rio Olympics.

The 21-year-old said the next competition is the Oceania Games in the Cook Islands which start next month.


Digicel Fiji said it cannot reveal the cash component of the sponsorship but said he will be paid monthly.

Tabakaucoro will also receive a cash bonus as soon as he makes the qualifying times for the Rio Olympics and another cash bonus will be given to him if he leaves for the Rio Games.

Digicel Fiji said Tabakaucoro will be offered to work at Digicel in his preferred department on a full pay when he is free from athletics.

When asked on the benefits he will be receiving in kind, Digicel Fiji said this includes phones, unlimited internet access, monthly phone credit and training clothes.
