Digicel Fiji is yet to get the license to operate Sky Pacific.

While an announcement was made by Digicel and Fiji Television last month, nothing has been confirmed as the Minister for Communications, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is yet to issue a special license.

Digicel needs a broadcasting and spectrum license.

Sayed‑Khaiyum said earlier this month that as a foreign based company, Digicel must obtain a license to provide subscription based pay television services in line with the Media Industry Development Decree.

He said Digicel has applied for a licence to the Ministry of Communications, however this license has not been approved for issue.

He said the license is being considered by the Ministry and a decision will be made in due course and until such time, no statements should be made regarding the operational control of or any content to be shown by the Sky Pacific Service.

Digicel had announced that it had paid a deposit of $0.75 million on the 18th of September while the $5M will be paid to Fiji TV after certain approvals come through in 21 days.

When questioned by Fijivillage, Digicel Fiji CEO, Darren McLean said they are still waiting patiently for the special license.
