The Digicel Fiji Barbarians has successfully defended the Carlton Sri Lanka Sevens tournament by beating Spain 36 7 in the Cup Final.

Coach Iliesa Tanivula was delighted with his team’s performance as the win in Sri Lanka has set the platform for the new IRB Sevens Series which kicks off in Dubai this week.

The Fiji Barbarians earlier dispatched off the South African Vipers, 28 19 in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, European teams such as Germany and Spain have surprised all with their sterling performances at this year’s Carlton Sevens in Sri Lanka.

While most of the top teams did not send their first sides to Sri Lanka because of the upcoming Dubai Sevens, the competition was nevertheless fierce and hard at times.

The home team Sri Lanka made the crowd delirious with happiness when they claimed the Shield Final.

Germany surprised all when they claimed the Bowl competition.

However, the biggest surprise was reserved for Spain who progressed to face the Digicel Fiji Barbarians in the Cup Final.
