The Red Cross Divisions in the West have confirmed that people in a number of areas they have visited are suffering from water born diseases.
The Red Cross Ba Branch said people are suffering from diarrhea in Votua and Mataniqara and to help they have been handing out hygiene packs and purifying tablets.
The Red Cross Nadi Branch said diarrhea is common in most of the places they have visited especially at Namotomoto and Nawaka.
Also, health officials in the Western Division are on alert after more than 15 people were found suffering from diarrhea and three people suspected of suffering from Leptospirosis following the recent flooding.
Divisional Medical Officer Western, Doctor Tharid Ali earlier confirmed that a woman in Nadi had died and they suspect she was suffering from Leptospirosis.
Again please take precautions and boil all drinking water as well as wear proper footwear when attending to animals or visiting farm areas and muddy livestock areas.
Meanwhile, the people of Savusavu have not come across cases of Leptospirosis and Diarrhea due to the pro-active measures taken by them.
The Sub Divisional Medical Officer for Savusavu, Dr Mohammed Ishaaq said the flooding did not affect Savusavu as much as other areas in the Western division and they started taking measures after the last flash flood.
Dr Ishaaq said that they are currently working on their project to provide families with better sanitation after receiving $59,000 from the Interim Prime Minister who recently visited Savusavu.
