Devo pleads not guilty
The court heard on the 12th January this year, Devo allegedly asked for a bundle of fish and 2 cartons of beer from the Financial Controller of Toberua Island as a reward to renew a liquor license.
On the 29th of March last year, being the Commissioner Central and Chairman of the Liquor Licensing Authority, Devo allegedly obtained 12 large bottles of alcoholic spirits from several Suva nightclubs as rewards to renew their licenses.
On the 22nd December last year, Devo allegedly took bottles of liquor from Carlton Brewery and several liquor outlets as rewards to renew licenses.
On the 1st of December, 2005 and March 2006, Devo allegedly misconduct himself and willfully used government vehicle GM472 with the Government driver for his personal gain. He allegedly collected bottles of beer and spirit from Suva and Nausori outlets. He also allegedly told the driver to falsify the running sheets to disguise the purpose of the journey.
On the 22nd February to 13th December, 2004, Devo allegedly used a government vehicle with a government employed driver collected left over food from three Nausori restaurants and to deliver food for his pigs.
Devo's lawyer, Apaitia Seru and FICAC lawyer Paul Madegan have been given 30 days to prepare for full disclosures.
The court granted bail after a request from Apaitia Seru. Devo was released on a $1000 bail under some conditions. He should report to Nausori Police Station once a week, surrender his passport and should not interfere with witnesses. The court also ruled that his name be put on the travel ban list.
The case will be recalled on the 6th of November.
