Former Vice President Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi has called on the people to develop a vision to move the country forward.

Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi made the call in a speech at the Annual Pacific Lecture held by New Zealand's Pacific Co-operation Foundation in Wellington.

He said the four coups have affected Fiji's progress in the last two decades, and he also highlighted a lack of shared values and unity amongst the various communities.

He said that despite the coup legacy, the time for blame has gone and the key challenge that remains for people is to build a better society based on democratic culture. The former Vice President also said that the immediate concern for Fiji is the role of the military and that clear protocols need to be developed in the military and the government.
