National 7s rugby coach Alifereti Dere is still hoping Nikola Matawalu will change his mind and join the national side for the World Cup in Russia.
Speaking to Fijivillage from his hotel room in Scotland today, Dere said he understands Matawalu’s concerns.
Dere added he will respect Matawalu’s decision after meeting him.
Matawalu earlier confirmed to Fijivillage that he will not be available for the World Cup because of the transition from 15s rugby to 7s.
Meanwhile, Fiji will take on Spain at 9.52pm Saturday at the Scotland 7s.
We then take on Argentina at 12.58am Sunday and our last pool match is against Australia at 5.15am Sunday.
The Cup quarters start at 10.58pm Sunday, Cup semis kick off at 2.58am Monday and the final will get underway at 5.45am Monday.
