Tourism Department has expressed great concern with the recent tragedies involving tourists in Fiji.

In a statement issued yesterday afternoon, the Department said that the accident at Nausori Highlands in which four tourists lost their lives comes at a time when the country least expects it, as it is a big blow to the Departments initiative in driving the industry forward.

According to the Department, two other tourists from Japan encountered awful experiences in Taveuni and Nadi, and the impact of these events cannot be comprehended given the sensitive nature of the Japanese and Korean Markets.

The Department adds that these events do not go well with the Interim Government, the Department and other stakeholder's intentions and tactics in developing and growing the tourism industry.

The Tourism Department is calling on all responsible agencies’ to urgently see that such dramatic incidents do not re-occur.
