People have been urged to take precautions as the reported number of cases of dengue fever continues to rise.
Divisional Medical Officer Western Doctor Tharid Ali confirmed that there are now 60 confirmed cases of dengue fever in the Western Division who are mainly children.
Dr Ali had urged members of the public to take steps to prevent dengue fever from spreading.
It was earlier confirmed that 9 confirmed cases of dengue fever were reported in the Central division.
Symptoms of dengue fever are headache, joint pains, vomiting, fever and weakness and it is advised that people experiencing fever for more than two days and who experience unexplained bleeding or rash or red spots on their skin must immediately see a doctor.
