Motel and apartment operators have been asked to demand for identification from people they suspect to be minors who show up at their property - alone or in the company of adults.

This is in an effort to prevent minors from getting involved in illegal activities such as under aged sex and drinking liquor.

Totogo Station Assistant Superintendent Tevita Waqabaca said with school holidays underway, a lot of children will be visiting the Vodafone Hibiscus Festival, attempting to get into nightclubs and indulge in liquor - as past trends has shown that minors end up in motels with adults for sexual activities and drinking.

Waqabaca said motel and apartment operators have been urged to keep an eye on these minors and inform their security guards not to allow people they suspect to be minors into their property.
