Although the government has today made it clear that there are no moves to legalize prostitution in the country, an NGO representing sex workers has said that they are really vulnerable at this stage.

They say decriminalization of sex work in Fiji will create a safer environment for sex workers who are often subjected to human rights violations and abuse.

It has been revealed that the sex workers are subjected to violence and that they are not taken seriously when they go to file the reports with the authorities.

The Survival Advocacy a Network for female and trans-gender sex workers also said that stigma and discrimination fuels vulnerability to HIV/AIDS.

Prostitution is illegal under the Crimes Decree.
