With the Crimes Decree, Criminal Procedure Decree and Sentencing and Penalties Decree coming into effect from next month, the government is taking efforts to combat all forms of crimes to another level and at the same time ensuring consistency in the sentences handed down by the courts.
Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum while closing the workshop for prosecutors on the crimes and sentences and penalties decree said the changes will also ensure that Fiji meets international requirements to fight crime.
Meanwhile, speaking to Fijivillage, Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Aca Rayawa said they have realized the significance of the workshop and similar workshops will be conducted in the future.
The four day workshop ended yesterday afternoon at the Police Academy. The decrees come into effect from February 1st.
