Robbie Deans has been sacked as Wallabies coach and he will be replaced by Queensland's Ewen McKenzie.

Deans was told his 74 test tenure the longest in Australian Rugby Union history was over during discussions with chief executive Bill Pulver.

Speculation about the end of Deans' tenure as coach has been rampant for some time, peaking after the Wallabies' 41-16 hammering at the hands of the British and Irish Lions in the deciding test in Sydney on Saturday.

McKenzie saw off a powerful challenge from Brumbies coach Jake White, who was considered a strong favourite for the position just a few weeks ago. White coached the Springboks to World Cup victory in 2007 and was responsible for leading a revival of the Brumbies.

Meanwhile, the Super rugby matches this Friday will see the Crusaders meeting the Hurricanes at 7:35pm while the Rebels host the Highlanders at 9:40pm.
