Robbie Deans has today confirmed he has severed ties with the Australian Rugby Union.

A carefully worded statement was issued by the ARU headquarters this morning saying Deans had resigned, effective immediately.

Later today in Brisbane, Queensland Reds Director of coaching Ewen McKenzie will be installed as the New Zealander's successor.

The ARU release quoted Deans saying he wishes to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in Australian Rugby for their support through the duration of his tenure.

Deans added that it has been a rewarding five years and he is proud of all that they have achieved especially the players for their efforts.

Since taking over in 2008, Deans led the Wallabies to 43 wins, 29 losses and two draws, for a winning percentage of 58 per cent.

He won only three of 18 tests against the All Blacks.

Meanwhile in the Super Rugby this weekend, the Chiefs meet the Blues at 7.35pm this Saturday.

At 7.35pm this Friday the Crusaders meet the Hurricanes while at 9.40 the Rebels play the Highlanders.
