A deadline by the end of the year has been issued for civil servants occupying government quarters they are not entitled to.

According to the Public Service Commission (PSC) those entitled to quarters are departments heads, judges, permanent secretaries and doctors due to the nature of their job.

Permanent Secretary Parmesh Chand said that those quarters for example like those in Ratu Sukuna Road, Veiuto, Muanikau and Domain are administered by PSC and staff members that are occupying them without approval will have to vacate by the end of the year.

So far 200 quarters have been identified and following a directive from the Prime Minister’s office that the civil servants be given ample notice to find alternative accommodation, they have been given until the end of the year.

There are currently 50 government quarters on commercial rent with the PSC Office Accommodation Division in the process of identifying another 12 vacant quarters which will be renovated and put on commercial rent soon.
