The Northern Mystics bid to sign former Silver Ferns star Vilimaina Davu has raised questions on whether her form is up to scratch to play in the league.

Netball New Zealand chief executive Raelene Castle admitted with her poor conditioning at last year's World Netball Championships, they don't believe Davu is up to the level required.

The five New Zealand and five Australian squads of 12 players were released yesterday, two months out from the start of the inaugural semi-professional competition.

Auckland based Davu played for Fiji at the November world championship and Netball New Zealand is classified her as a foreign player.

Davu played under Mystics coach Yvonne Willering at the Northern Force and declared her availability two weeks ago.

However, Davu is believed to be back in the country after signing a deal with a weight loss company, which would suggest she is motivated to get back into shape.

A three-person eligibility panel will be appointed to settle the Mystics dispute.
