Nadroga’s, Davetalevu went down to SRC Borneo Eagles 25-19 in the final of the Hottest 7s tournament in Darwin last night.

In a game of contrasting styles, Malaysia based SRC Borneo Eagles used speed and clever stepping to overcome a more powerful Davetalevu and became only the second team to win the Heineken Hottest 7s titles back to back.

Fiji’s South Sea drifters, made of the Digicel Fiji 7s team players went down to SRC Borneo Eagles in the semi-final by 19-17.

The South Sea Drifters was made up of seasoned 7s skipper Emosi Vucago, Watisoni Votu, Nasoni Roko, Seremaia Burotu, Sitiveni Waqa, Nemani Nagusa, Semesa Gonevou, Kelemedi Bola and Mitieli Nacagilevu.

The Iliesa Tanivula coached Drifters earlier won their quarter final match against CA Brumbies 28-12 while Davetalevu won their quarter-final match against Sunnybank by 24-5.

Meanwhile, Tanivula is expected to name his 12 member Fiji 7s team later this week which will participate in the New Zealand and USA 7s tournament.

The New Zealand 7s tournament will be held next weekend.
