The Davetalevu 7's rugby team's hope of winning their second tournament on tour did not eventuate last night when they lost in the quarter finals of the Singapore 7's to South African Vipers 24 17.

The Vipers side is coached by Paul Treu and is made up of the Boks 7's training squad for the first leg of the IRB 7's series in Dubai.

New Fiji national 7's squad member Semesa Gonevou, Miti Nacagilevu and Joeli Lutumailagi could not help the Nadroga based club, going down 24-17 at the stroke of full time after both sides were levelled at 17 all.

In the final the Penguins from the UK, fielding all New Zealand based players, defeated the South African Vipers 19-14 to win the tournament and ended the Vipers 4 year winning streak.

Promising Fijian-born flyer David Raikuna was the hero for the touring club scoring twice in the final including the match winner, and the 23year old looks set to be in the New Zealand squad for the IRB 7's series.
